Six Mile, with Radhanagar, is one of Guwahati’s largest residential areas, right by the GS Road and very well connected. It has large vegetable markets, and the Radhanagar side is noticeably less crowded, which is why so many people choose it to live in. Families are the most common tenants here, while neighbouring Jayanagar, home to the NERIM group of colleges, draws more students.
Everything you need is close by. GNRC Hospital is on the main road, Pantaloons is nearby, and Nayantara, one of the city’s most popular department stores, is on the GS Road. Evenings are good too, with plenty of restaurants, and the stretch between Six Mile and Jayanagar is known for authentic Assamese food, especially for lunch and dinner. Dona Presidency, the area’s largest gated community, with several blocks and modern facilities, is one of the most sought-after addresses for comfortable living.
Six Mile has long been more affordable than Ganeshguri or Dispur, while staying close to the GS Road. A 2 BHK typically starts from ₹16,000 a month and a 3 BHK from ₹20,000. Two practical tips: expect traffic in the mornings and evenings, and in heavy rain a little water collects below the Six Mile overbridge. Next door, Panjabari is one of the city’s older neighbourhoods, where many Assamese families have lived for generations. It’s quieter and less expensive than Six Mile, a 2 BHK typically starts from around ₹14,000 a month, it’s well connected, and it sees very little waterlogging in the rains.
