Kahilipara is one of Guwahati’s oldest residential neighbourhoods, and still one of its calmest: a large area running from Ganeshguri towards Ahomgaon and the bypass, with hills at its back, birdsong in the mornings and seasonal flowers along the lanes. In recent years it has also become the address for the city’s new gated communities — projects by Protech, Subham and Uttarayan, and large developments such as Piya Exotica — with swimming pools, gyms, children’s play areas and community halls, and more apartments still coming up. The 4th Assam Police Battalion is nearby, which residents count among the reasons the area feels secure.
Everything daily is within walking distance — vegetable and grocery shops, markets, schools, hospitals, and a cluster of government offices — and the city is close: Dispur and Ganeshguri next door, Six Mile 4–5 km, Paltan Bazar 2–3 km by car, with a direct run to the airport via the bypass. Public transport is good. A local’s note: the main road gets busy at rush hour and there is no flyover; roadside parking is easy towards Ahomgaon but scarce near Ganeshguri; and the short road over the hill to Bhangagarh is both the quickest way there and the prettiest drive in the area. Rents sit above the city average, and for a reason: it is a prime locality where many of Guwahati’s well-known families have their homes, and the new projects set the standard.
